First blog- Understand Alzheimer part 1

This is my first blog. I hope I can share essential and understandable information about Alzheimer. Also, from my grandfather’s experience and other subscribers’ experience, we can help each other to learn Alzheimer. Alzheimer is not a fully investigated topic in recent world, the thing we can do is to help patients and their family members to minimize the symptoms.

What is dementia

  • A broad term for disease or disorder that related to brain change
  • It can affect one’s memory, thinking skill, social skill, etc
  • Alzheimer is one of a dementia.

Background knowledge:

  • Brains have billions of neurons connected together
  • Brain serves as a control center for your whole body
  • Neurons connect together in order to share, store, and receive information.

What happen to a person’s brain when they have Alzheimer?

1st reason

  • When a person Alzheimer, the brain start to build plaque as cell die.
  • A natural protein in brain called beta-amyloid 42 can break down and form plaque. ( Protein fragments will naturally form in your brain. Scientists called that amyloid)
  • If plaque build onto your neurons, brain cannot function properly.

2nd reason

  • Your brain’s other protein, tau protein, can tangle together, and that can cause damage to your brain since it block your neurons from connecting together.
  • Tangled tau protein block your neurons from communicate and sending message to each other.
  • As brains’ neurons continue being blocked by plaque and tangled tau protein, brains can go through the process of inflammation and atrophy. (Atrophy is the shrinkage of brain as cell die in you brain)

Reminders :

All those changes in your brain happen about 20 years before obvious symptoms being observed.

As neurons keep being blocked, your other part of brain will be affect as well.

Stages of AD

Still, hope you guys gain useful information from my blog. Please share your family member’s experience to me. My email is down below the website.

The first few blogs is just a brief introduction of Alzheimer. (it might be a little boring) Later, I will focus on more stories from my family member and your story. Also, I will share some treatment (whether it is medical or non-medical, including some exercise) to see if those work in other patients.

Again, please be willing to share your experience to me. I hope we can form a community to help Alzheimer’s patients. Also, if you have any question, ask me. I will answer your concern. Thank you!
